Had a crumby night last night… The smoke alarm started “Chirping” intermittently… Not going off, just a li’l chirp every two or three minutes… I tried ignoring it – no good… I hit it with a stick – it still chirped… I hit it again, so hard I knocked it loose from the ceiling – it still chirped… I took the battery out – it still chirped… As I sit here writing this now, the thing is still chirping! I feel like I’m stuck in one of those old cartoons with an inanimate object that won’t die!!
If I had dumped it in a bucket, it probably would’ve squirted me (like the live clam in the soup, in those 3 Stooges movies)… What it really wanted was a new 9 volt battery – which I bought in the AM. They come conveniently packaged two to a card, this is so that you can use the one you need and place the other in a “Safe” place (for later) where you will never ever find it, when it comes time to replace the battery again!

Have you tried submerging it in a bucket of water? But then, if your cartoon theory is correct, it might only go “(glug) chirp”.

The smoke alarm needs to be thrown into a fire.
The American Association of Battery Manufacturers thank you.
