Who Put the Bop? as in: “Who Put the Bomp in the Bomp, Sh-Bomp, Bomp”… or however that goes… Which, if you were around back in 61, you may recall – or maybe not… Not that the song actually has any relevance to our story, such as it is…
Which reminds me, for those of you who thought they’d seen the last of the Sailor Chix – in our Next installment, (No Foolin’!) a New Sailor appears – Wowsers! You won’t want to miss this Nautical Nemesis, true believers!!
However, in the meantime, I suppose that I should also mention, there’s a New Halloween themed Bunz & Katz October DeskTop Calendar available on http://www.CuteyBunny.com … (Just a note: following it’s initial uploading, I did a fairly major update to the Calendar last Thurs – So if you’ve already glommed a copy, you might wish to check – if Bunz isn’t SMILING, then you have the older version)…
Would’ja believe, that the answer is contained somewhere in the lyrics to the musical question: “Who put the Bomp in the Bomph sh-Bomp Bomp?” (Back in the 60s, we all had to wait 2 years, before Johnny Cymbal explained that it was, “Mister Bass man” all along… Now why didn’t I think of that?) But I digress… What’s that you say? “You’re not buying this story??” Er. I gotta admit, it didn’t sound all that plausible to myself either…
Okay so you drug it out of me – I admit it, the Stupefying revelation has something to do with the Naughty Nautical Nemesis (mentioned in the previous blurb) which we’ll all be meeting next time… Isn’t that exciting? No really, would I lie to you? (Don’t answer that question)…
Beginning to look cute and appealing? Has there ever been a non-cute and appealing Quagmire bunny? I don’t think he could draw one if he tried. (and don’t take that as a challenge)
I eagerly await the coming of the New Sailor. Previous Sailor Chix have been a bit two dimensional in presentation. I hope that she gets to strut her stuff. Thanks for the story so far.
(Not so much for his insight – I’ve just always wanted to watch someone try to smoke a Rubber Cigar!)
To be honest, I probably should admit that I haven’t exactly been diligently workin’ on the next page – I sort’a kind’a got sidetracked onto a special Halloweeny story piece – which should be posted sometime towards the end of this month… Meanwhile, as per page 67, I’ve inked as far as the intro pix of the um… Well I haven’t finished beyond that…
Though here’s an opportunity: As I have no current ideas for the November Calendar (as per Pix or Theme) I’m open to suggestions – if there’s anything that you’d really really like to see with the Calendar, then let me know, (Keep it kind’a PG – Okay?) Could be any of the repertory company, like Cutey Bunny, Bronco, Bunz & Katz, Space Gophers, even Uncle Joe – If your idea clicks with me, and isn’t overly complex, you never know, It might end up on the Calendar page…
What, post it here? OK, too good to pass up. Kelly (in white cracker-jacks) on liberty in Olongapo. Vicky with her in class A’s. (Vicky has the makings of a Marine.) Nikko and Kanneko working the street. Taffy selling “monkey on a stick”. Uncle Joe or the Gophers driving a jeepney. Etc.
Blast from the past.
Heather over in the corner leaning over a bridge abutment and holding her nose?
Not getting too complicated here am I? ;->
Sounds like a fun idea – though just a Tad on the overly complex side… Maybe try thinkin’ along the lines of one or two characters and a manageable background…
Your idea does pause me to wonder, did I ever take a photo down the length of the street? Can’t exactly recall… For those of you left wondering: Surly Bill is talkin’ about Olongapo in the Philippines, just across the river from the old Subic Bay Naval Base…
Hey common man! That was a “dream sheet” where you put down what you WANT. What you actually GET can be an entirely different thing altogether. (I trust your sage wisdom to tweak my grandiose idea into something manageable.)
Y’know, I think that you just want to see Kelly in tight whites – Like um… in this pix… And yes, I suppose that is a bit of a sloppy salute she’s waving, but considering her uniform (or lack of same) I doubt many would notice… (or object)…
By the way, do Navy types still wear those Dixie Cup hats? Back when I was in the Corps, they’d replaced the dixie cups on the Navy utility uniforms with those blue baseball caps, but still wore ’em with dress uniforms… But then, that was quite a while ago…
Actually coming up with this pix, is just one more way for me to fritter away time, Instead of getting the next B&K page ready… Originally I wasn’t really planning on finishing the Whites pix, just post a quick sketch, but once I got started, just sort’a kept going…
As for Bunz & Katz – still haven’t finished the next page – this past week I’ve been working on a 5 page Halloweeny special story, This took me longer to put together than I had initially anticipated – we’ll probably be posting it sometime next week (on or just before the 31st)… Hopefully will have the next regular page up before then, but can’t be certain… One problem with posting a 5 page story all at once, means people coming to the site will see the last page first… The only work-around I’ve come up with so far, is to post a pin-up after the last page, with a note to go back 5 pages for the story… If anyone knows a better way to do this with ComicPress, let me know okay? JQ
Holy Cracker Jacks Batman! She sure as hell passes my muster! If I were still in the NAVY, and still in SBU-22, and if SBU-22 still existed, (it doesn’t) I would have to make some kind of attempt to stencil that on the wheelhouse of my MINI (Armored Troop Carrier). Well that just got permanently burned into the hard drive! And since it was done at my instigation I’m gonna consider it MINE and print it on nice paper and hang it on my wall! (I’ll pay good coin of the realm for that on a large coffee mug.) You da man.
PS: We only wore Cracker Jacks for very rare command inspections. We usually wore BDU’s. I’m looking at my old Dixie cup right now. Kinda yellowish. I think they only wear the Dixie cup with the jumpers. Other hats are ball caps with dungarees and a navy blue garrison cap with office wear. (I think. It’s been… jeeze, twelve years since I dragged up.)
Speaking about military hats. Have you heard how the Marines are considering taking the female “cover” and issuing it to everyone? Female Marines aren’t too happy, because they liked having a female style of dress in the uniform. No one is asking the male Marines about the change. And the new cover will cost several times as much as the old one. On the other hand, someone looked back through old Marine history books, and found a Marine general that wore a similar hat.
You mean that li’l pillbox sort of WM hat? That would seem kind’a weird… Back in the 70s there was the frame cover, which was pretty much totally useless and a pain to lug around – I tossed mine out! then there was the “Crisscutter” or barracks cap, usually worn with dress uniforms – the thing didn’t keep the sun out of your eyes and was practically no protection from rain or seagull droppings – never did understand the logic to it… (But at least it’s color matched the rest of the uniform, which for some reason on Army types it didn’t) About the only practical hat (or “Cover”) was the utility cap – just a soft floppy green cap with a bill, so it at least helped as a sun shade – only hassle was when they expected one to starch it to make the thing stiff – I mean, we painted the starch on with a brush, it was thick! Then if it rained the darn thing would “Melt” an’ the starch would run down in your ears!! Now that I think about it, seems to me, that whoever designs military hats, has some serious problems at coming up with anything practical!!
Y’know, that’s a unique idea! I wouldn’t have considered that at all… Kind’a forgot about Tachete… but it’s somewhat too late for next month’s calendar – I will try to keep it in mind for next year perhaps…

I wanna hear the shocking revelation! 🙂

Well, I’d like to thank the man who wrote the song…and I mean it from the bottom of my boogety-boogety-boogety-shoop. (Spelling uncertain.)
And you can’t hardly get more sincere than that!
Bunz is beginning to look suspiciously cute and appealing in those calendar pix… could it be a failure in her merciless-invader programming?

I’m thinking “wrong to the Finich” is a pretty good clue.
Give that man a Rubber Cigar!!!

For the Nov calendar how about something with Tachete’? Maybe in that pilot suit carrying her helmet with an aircraft in the background.
Y’know, that’s a unique idea! I wouldn’t have considered that at all… Kind’a forgot about Tachete… but it’s somewhat too late for next month’s calendar – I will try to keep it in mind for next year perhaps…
I like Tachete. I still have a pic of her I got from you at the World Con that was at Alameda back in 1984.
