As you can probably tell, this page was meant to go with the December Calendar and to be posted on or around Xmas day… Sorry ‘bout the delay – I’ve just um… been feelin’ a bit under the weather – no energy, tired etc… Though come to think of it, unless you’re an Astronaut or Cosmonaut up there in orbit, the rest of us are all always “Under the Weather”… Darn that Weather!!
Still looking at the upside – this page – it’s like having Xmas all over again – an’ ya don’t need to wait another year!
I suppose as long as I’m apologizing for things, I must give a nod to Leiber & Stoller, who’s “Jailhouse Rock” song we parodied and perhaps to Elvis as well… Also a thanx to Walt for helping to tweak the lyrics…
Just to mention an odd synchronicity, “Jailhouse Rock” was featured in at least two movies, the Elvis flick of the same name as well as the first Blues Brothers movie… What is curious, is that a year Before the Elvis movie, a similar song, “Rock Around the Rockpile”, was the central number in: “The Girl Can’t Help It” directed by former Looney Tunes Director, Frank Tashlin… The film features many 50s Rock & Rollers, like Little Richard, Fats Domino, Eddie Cochran, Gene Vincent and others – though not Elvis, who was reportedly approached, but his manager asked too much… Oh, and Jayne Mansfield is apparently “The Girl (who) Can’t Help It”… all in all well worth watching, (both of ‘em) an’ um, the Movies too – or if you’re jus’ interested in Rock’n’Roll of the 50s…
“We’re having a party, dancing to the music, played by the DJ on the radio…”
I was gonna post something on the last comic complimenting you on Bunz’s different-colored socks, but the comments have been off for a while. Till this new one, in fact.
Wow, that was quick! I hadn’t expected any comments for a day or two as readers maybe gradually became aware of the new page… But you jumped right on it – how’d you manage that? Been sittin’ there updating your browser every two minutes for the past month or so???
As for Socks, yes they are one of Bunz’ better features (she has so few, Y’know) Jus’ a po’ li’l Alien from the wrong side of the Solar System, she has a Lousy personality – Homicidal tendencies – is Bossy – always cheers for Marvin Martian… But she does have Socks, so we know she does have redeeming qualities – she even changes them now and then…
The Moral of this being: To quote Dan O’Neill, “If you keep your shoulder to the wheel and both feet planted firmly on the ground, then you’ll never be able to take your shoes off — And if you never take off your shoes your socks will rot!”
Well, I happened to be up at that hour…I work nights, sleep days (sometimes), and happened to be off that day for the holiday. So I’m up in the middle of the night when normal people are asleep and could check in. Other than that I usually check in every day.
I think he turned of the comments because he didn’t want to see any more snarky guff from Surly Bill. And here I was thinking I was being all entertaining and stuff. However, it is gratifying to know that Josh was not actually run over by a commuter train (it was that other guy) and that we CAN look forward to many more years of Quag-humor via Bunz & Katz.
Eh… the Comments are automatically switched off for each page after a fixed period of time (usually 30 days)… I shortened it up a bit in Dec. because the site was being hit with a lot of Spam – once that had passed I put the settings back as they had been – however my lack of posting any new pages meant that the comments stayed expired…
How many of you noticed from the previous page, that Bunz might have had some interest in an old movie, that took about 50 years to get to her planet: “Plan 9 (from outer space)”? Remember that for all her people’s possible faults, they are very accepting of presented facts. Telling lies isn’t something that they practice. To them, that movie might have seemed less a screen play, and more of a documentary.
Ever seen “Galaxy Quest”? The misinterpretation of a TV show as historical documents is the point upon which the whole plot hangs. Basing a scheme for world conquest on Plan 9 From Outer Space? Somebody needs to go back to the drawing board. How about a plan based on one of the successful alien invasion movies?
Wow, if Jailhouse Santa is going to be this mean, maybe it’s a good thing to have “Christmas for Cons” postponed like this… maybe even until summer weather sets in, so a cold bath wouldn’t be such a shock to the system!
Billthesurely, the aliens of Plan 9, argued that their take over of our planet was justified by the arrogance of our science, which they asserted was in the dangerous direction of discovering how to cause our sun to explode, and because of that, everyone elses star with it. Look for their gas can argument in the story.
Well Okay… For whatever it’s worth, I’ve never watched “Galaxy Quest” (Though I had heard of it)… And while I have, many years ago, watched the notorious “Plan 9 from Outer Space” it’s been so many years since then, that about all I recall about it are Bela Lugosi doing his Dracula schtick and the guys in gorilla suits and diving helmets… If the movie had any plot, I’d long ago forgotten what it was – your rundown here is all stuff that I just don’t recall…
As Bunz was making various plans for our demise, it was actually Walt’s idea to label one of them “Plan 9” as an homage to the old movie – but that’s really all there is to it…
Hey artist boy! You trying to throw cold water on me and Bill ‘O Kansas’ discussion about world conquest alien invasion movies? Sounds like he’s come up with another “these dirt creatures are dangerous and they’re about to expand out into our space” argument that was used so well in both versions of The Day The Earth Stood Still. Now I’m going to have to scurry around and read up on a synopsis of Plan 9 which I too have not seen in forever.
It seems that alien invasion movies come in two types – mindless, violent, invasions-for-no-particular-reason (they want our dirt!) made to show how nobly we resist such invasions and the “we are here to save you from yourselves” variety which hang out our dirty laundry and show us dirtlings in a far more negative light.
Hmmmm… so which genre is our little Bunz coming from? I suspect that it’s not as obvious as it looks.

I would prefer to have thought it was because you were otherwise engaged with copius adult beverages and a busty lass from Saucy-lito.
At least NOW her socks match, as well as her panties coordinate with the outfit.
