It would seem that the crew, with the somewhat lackadaisical “help” of Bubba Bass (their Nav-Computer) has actually found their way to Greenland… But now that they’ve arrived, has anyone actually thought through, what to do next?? Perhaps we’ll find out in our next tolerably thrilling installment – Will they all escape their current predicament, or will they end up in deep freeze for the next few thousand years?? (or however long it requires for global warming to melt the icecap without B&K’s help)…
Whoops! Obviously, Big Mouth Bubba Bass has his shortcomings as a Nav/Computer… As a Fish, one would expect him to be fully capable of detecting water… but as a rubber musical fish formerly mounted on a board, he might have a bit of trouble analyzing the physical state of that water…
Not long ago there was a Bunz and Katz page without them, now on this page Bunz is only in one panel and then there’s the Rudie pages, could Bunz and Katz be going the way of Barney Google and Fritzi Ritz to lose their comic page entirely?
Well, did you ever see Barney Google do as many fan service pages as Bunz does?? (Barney Google in fan service… Gaak, the mind reels at the mere suggestion)…
Very old reference. If someone is throwing up or trying to, they make a sound that sounds like Raaaalph or O’RoAaarke or Buuuuick. The Ralph reference was part of a Cheech and Chong comedy skit.
I guess that is going back a ways… I recall back in the ’70s when I got stuck on guard duty, one of the guys who I shared the barracks room with was hooked on the “Dave’s Not Here” routine… When someone came to the door he’d go into that… “Dave? Is that you Dave? Dave’s not here!” It could drive you nutz!!
Seems that in Newspaper Comics, Barney Google was replaced by Snuffy Smith – Fritzi Ritz lost her strip to Nancy… Big Chief Wahoo’s comic became Steve Roper and Mike Nomad – Wash Tubbs lost his featured role to Captain Easy and the Thimble Theater crew of Castor Oyl & Harold Hamgravy were replaced by Popeye… I suppose there’s other examples of a featured character being replaced by a newer character who’s more appropriate to the times, though can’t think of any at the moment…
On a somewhat related note, Roy Crane left the Captain Easy strip to create Buz Sawyer during WWII – Milt Caniff bailed out on Terry and the Pirates to own his Steve Canyon strip… While much earlier Rudolph Dirks abandoned his highly successful Katzenjammer Kids to do the virtually identical Captain and the Kids strip…
For anyone in need of an August Desktop Calendar – “Catch of the Day” from August 2010 has the same numbers… Just click on the pix to take you to the download page…
