It seems that Bunz has survived hypothermia only to get a slightly used dirndl outfit out of the deal… I regret to admit it, but that seems the most exciting thing to happen this time ’round… Sorry ’bout that – we’ll try to do better next time!
Actually, as I understand it, German Officers were by tradition & legally nonpolitical… (Hermann Goering needed to get the rules changed so that he could join the National Socialist party)… So Kaptain von Krakkt wouldn’t be a Nazi in the sense that he’d been a party member… Then again, there was a strong feeling that Germany had been handed the dirty end of the stick after WWI with unfair reparations forced upon them, as well as the loss of their high seas fleet – As such, some officers fought out of duty, some for revenge and of course many were in accord with the Nazis – What von Krakkt’s opinion might be, I couldn’t say, though back on page 279 he did voice some anti Hitler vilification…
Just a note: While DoubleW is correct, from what I’ve read the oldest known Polar Bear in the wild lived to 30 years – while most live to less than half that age… So, as the crew had been in frozen stasis for 82 years, our Polar Bear friend with the stocking cap couldn’t be the guilty party…
The U-boat captain and his crew know very well that they are living on borrowed time. Why they don’t know. But they do know that much. Old and tired, but still with a willingness to fight. This time maybe looking for a better cause to fight for. I can’t help but envision the barefoot angels in white on YouTube singing Bonnie Tyler’s song – Holding Out For A Hero. Allow please for one final time in the seaman’s life, that he gets to exit the stage in such a manner. All else may be gone, but he could still go out with his honor in his heart.

That moral officer would have been a hit at a furry con…
Eh? They wear dirndls at furry cons??
Well, that hapless Nazi is going to find that Bunz & Katz keep coming back like a bad pfeenig…

Well, the morale officer was certainly a hit with one furry polar bear…
Could this mean that the stocking cap wearing polar bear is a man eater?
Hey, polar bears have no fear of man, or anything else that is edible… to them, we are just two-legged pork-chops…

True, true… and it’s terrible to visualize an 82-year-old Polar Bear… mangy, feeble, wearing coke-bottle glasses and having to gum his prey to death.
That might be considered to be a fate worse than death!
