So here it is, Thanksgiving Day, when we can all be thankful for something… Like the Pilgrims at that notional long ago luncheon, they were thankful for the harvest and their Indian friends (who would get eradicated sometime later)… So, If you are a Republican, you can be thankful as well, that in the spirit of the holiday, your party is screwing the Native Americans at the Standing Rock Indian Reservation once again, by authorizing the construction, (without environmental review required by the Clean Water Act) of a iffy potentially polluting pipeline through traditional native lands…
Or, you might be thankful for your *Promised* tax cut, that by Congressional slight of hand, will expire almost before you see the benefits… That is, unless you are a Corporation or Uber-Wealthy (and also a Corporation) in which case the tax breaks are permanent… So nice isn’t it? our Whitehouse Resident qualifies for the Permanent option – almost as if the bill was written with him in mind… So y’know that he has something to be thankful for today…
And should you be a reader of this Comix, you might be somewhat thankful that Katz, it seems, turns out to be safe and sound… Also, he seems to have found a new friend… Will we be changing the Strip’s title to “Katz & Ratz”? Only time and our next moderately unedifying installment may tell…
Ah, the leak of 110,000 gallons of bitumen tar-sand extracted oil was it? Or was it merely fracking derived oil from the lower 48? We know well enough how to clean up oil spills I think. But the question really [should] be, how well do we know how to clean up Sulfate Brine holding ponds? MgSO4 typical sulfate, is harmless enough to soak your tired feet in. Even the Mercury (in the brine) is but a limited threat to Native Americans and Native Canadians. Merely don’t drink or shower with the local water supply, and wear rubber boots most of the time when you stand on mud or dirt. But the sulfates and mercury are a sort of food for the anaerobic bacteria in the ponds. They produce [Me]Hg from their lunch. The same thing in the sea limits how much tuna you can safely eat. But it is considered not properly cowboy in attitude to even ask what happens to microbe chemistry when a 100 million times the density of sulfates and mercury are in 2 cubic miles of pond brine rather than 160 million cu. miles of sea water. Reasoning that tar-sands and coal really aren’t that different in what’s in them. One diffused in smoke stack exhaust — the other not diffused at all. Not a version of being properly cowboy PC to point this out I guess.
Yoiks and View Halloo! So Katz is, apparently, safe, although perhaps not all that sound, if he’s voluntarily watching that kiddie-show piefest… Yet, what means that glum expression, if he’s supposed to be amused? Is he merely trying to stifle his grief for a fallen and beglobbed superior by watching brain-numbing kiddie pabulum, or has his mind already been switched off by the inane antics of the World’s Worst Kid-Show Host and his latest victim?
And that victim himself is something of a conundrum… Will Batz finally go bats under this steady stream of insult and custard, and respond in his wonted hyper-violent fashion? Or will he seize control of the show himself, and proceed to infect young minds with his own brand of angst-in-the-pantz?
