So, here we are on Jan 20th – While parts of the US Government remain shutdown, or govt. workers are forced to work without paychecks, the most useless part of our government, the Loon in the White House remains employed… How does that make any sense?!?
Meanwhile, Katz it seems, has gotten the plywood Saucer flyable – or has he?? Guess we’ll find out next time in a strip that’s guaranteed not to Suck!!
Oh no doubt he’ll get it off the ground. Now, just how far off the ground remains to be seen. I’m betting just far enough to show up on air defense radar and to really hurt when it “lands”.
Sorry Charlie, ah Surly – You lose! DoubleW is correct, it’s Not a wet-suit, Bunz is wearing a modified partial pressure suit, which was worn by Airfarce pilots back in the 50s for flying high-G aircraft… And which with a few alterations became the de facto space suit for comic book illustrations of the time…
Ah ha! Well that’s what I get for not reading enough of the right kind of comic books in my youth. I feel so deprived. (Dad did not approve – I had to sneak MAD into my room.)
I have to admit it, that Wally Wood did it better – but then who could compete with him? Katz’ “EC” reference is a tip off, as a great deal of Wood’s best SF artwork appeared in EC’s Weird Science and Weird Fantasy Comics as well as their follow-on code approved versions…
So having nothing particularly better to do I went looking about the internet for the, shall we say “racier”, works of Mr Wallace Wood – and I found them, or at least some of them. Wowzers. I never saw comics like that in the ’60’s. Of course, I turned 10 in October of ’68 so I wasn’t exactly looking for that kind of thing… yet. Where would one go to find stuff like that in the late ’60s – early ’70s?
Reminds me of the last stanza of the song the trucker and the hobo. He said his arm was broken because he got a copy of the Playboy magazine. He thought it was a Sears and Roebuck catalog, and broke his arm filling out order blanks!
Good comment on your Feb intro page. Yes indeed we should protect the planet that we have. Scientific American pointed out, that as much as secular science can admit to, that it is somewhat a miracle that we have a living planet in this galaxy even at all. But miracle upon miracle, if the iron core of the earth haden’t frozen when it did, (a little over 1/2 Billion years ago), we would have no powerful and protective magnetic field at all. Radiation from mainly the sun, would have definitely fried all life on land masses.

Indeed, Katz does seem a bit tongue-tied… wot gives?
Maybe he forgot to stock up with sodas?

Yea, considering the last landing Bunz made left a huge hole in the ground, I expect another disaster.
Hmmmm… Bunz seems to have cut up and repurposed an old wet suit. So familiar… where have I seen this done before…?
In a hundred old Wally Wood comic strips… Surely Phil’s Big Box O’ Cinema Scanties would include several such outfits.
Possibly, but I had something a little closer to home in mind.
(Army Surplus Komikz #4, Pg 13.)
Great minds think alike.

What was life like before the internet daddy? ;->
Well, there was always the lingerie section in the old Sears Roebuck catalog…
